Directing Improvisation for Film
Wednesday 23rd Jan, 18:00, CoMingle
They say that in improvisation there are no mistakes, and after watching Club Europa, you might have to agree. The feature film's seamless dialogues and acting were completely improvised – quite a challenge considering the 40-strong team. In our upcoming Guest Session, first-feature director Franziska Margarete Hoenisch and DoP Stefanie Reinhard will share how they made it happen. Both filmmakers and screen actors would be wise not to miss this insightful event!

About the film:
'Club Europa' follows the story of Kreuzberg flatmates Martha, Yasmin and Jamie, who decide to invite Cameroonian refugee Samuel to live in their spare room. Life together is great, until Samuel's situation takes a dramatic turn. The flatmates must now face the question: how far do they really want to go to help?
'Club Europa' is Franziska M. Hoenisch's first feature film, after graduating in 2017. A co-production with the prestigious editorial department ZDF Das kleine Fernsehspiel, it has won several prizes. Franziska broadened her horizons throughout her academic career, completing internships at Cape Town Opera, Goethe-Institut Prag and the European Culture Channel ARTE in Strasbourg. She first graduated from Cultural Science at the University of Hildesheim, having spent one semester at the School of Fine Arts in Athens. Immediately after, she studied directing at the renowned Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg with one semester at the prestigious Paris film school La Fémis. There she shot her short film 'aussi loin', which has traveled numerous international festivals.
About the DoP:
Stefanie Reinhard graduated from PWSFTviT, the Polish national film school, in 2016 with a Master's in cinematography. Since then she's worked as a director of photography, driven to design a unique visual voice for every story. Her filmography stretches all the way back to 2011, an impressive repertoire of short fictions, commercials, music videos, documentaries and feature films. Stefanie has received nearly as many awards as she has made films. The most recent include Best Short Film, Best Script and a special jury mention for 'How to Reach God Through Proper Exercising' at the international Black Canvas Contemporary Film Festival.
